Location
Edinburgh’s New Town is rightly regarded as a masterpiece of town planning and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Canonmills lies at its north eastern corner, providing a transition between the New Town’s tenements and the grand houses of Inverleith and Trinity beyond.
It is a testament to the New Town community that the area retains the feel of a town, whilst being so close to the city centre. Specialist independent retailers, delicatessens and antique shops nestle amongst a variety of bars, cafés and restaurants, giving the area an infectious energy. For the larger weekly shop, a Tesco Superstore lies a short walk from Printhouse. Canonmills is also an important area for business, with RBS and Standard Life major local employers.
Getting around
The junction at the heart of Canonmills is the hub of New Town transport, providing easy access to the City Centre, Leith and Stockbridge. The area is well served by public transport with frequent city-wide bus links. The main Bus Station and Waverley Railway Station are both walkable in 20 minutes. Printhouse sits in tranquil surroundings, overlooking the Water of Leith This artery through the New Town meanders its way down to join the Forth at the Port of Leith and the Water of Leith walkway provides a pleasant, leisurely way to access Stockbridge to the West and Leith to the East. For those who enjoy cycling it also provides access to the extensive network of cycle tracks, which criss-cross much of Edinburgh.
An Edinburgh institution
For almost two centuries the residents of Edinburgh have escaped the city, without leaving its boundaries. The Royal Botanic Gardens are a haven from the hustle and bustle of city life, and this oasis of calm and beauty is just five minutes walk from Printhouse.
